Research Finding
Focusmate reports that neurodivergent members, including individuals with ADHD, experience a remarkable 161% increase in productivity when using the platform's virtual body doubling sessions.
What is Body Doubling
Body doubling is the practice of working on any task with another person present, without them participating in your task. The mere presence of another person working provides:
- Accountability and external structure
- Reduced likelihood of distraction
- Increased task initiation
- Sustained attention and focus
Why It Works for Neurodivergent Individuals
ADHD-Specific Benefits
- Provides external accountability that compensates for weak executive function
- Creates a structured start and end time
- Reduces choice paralysis about what to work on
- Offers social pressure that overrides procrastination
- Builds routine and consistency
Broader Neurodivergent Benefits
- Non-judgmental presence reduces anxiety
- Silent coworking accommodates varied work styles
- Video format allows masking to be optional
- Flexibility to work on any task

- Potentially life-changing for those who struggle with focus
- Validates body doubling as an evidence-based productivity strategy
