Flowstate, dubbed "The Most Dangerous App," is a writing application that forces continuous typing by deleting all content if you stop writing for more than five seconds. Created to combat writer's block and perfectionism, it uses extreme consequences to keep writers moving forward without editing or overthinking.
Flowstate was created by filmmaker Caleb Slain and developer Blaine Cronn, inspired by a non-stop writing exercise from a Sundance Institute screenwriting class. The philosophy:
The Most Dangerous Writing App (MDWA): Free web-based version with same concept, available at themostdangerouswritingapp.com
Flowstate is a paid app (approximately $10), while The Most Dangerous Writing App is free online.
Flowstate and MDWA gained cult following among writers for their radical approach to beating writer's block. Featured in productivity and writing communities as a last-resort tool for when nothing else works.
Flowstate represents the extreme end of productivity tools—not for daily use by most people, but powerful for specific situations where breakthrough is needed.
